How EMM is Used by DigitalMint, RGS Nordic, EPIC Management, ADSI, and Van Gogh Museum: Case Studies

Enterprise mobility management (EMM) is an umbrella term for a collection of processes and technologies used to manage mobile devices and wireless networks.

EMM solutions enable companies to expand into multiple offices and include remote workers without increasing the workload on IT teams.

1. ADSI

ADSI has been a provider of mobile and telecommunication services for B2B clients since 2002. As a leader in the UK mobile communications industry, the company has multiple branches over the country with around 50 employees.

Clients providing smartphones and tablets for their employees needed a way to make sure the data they pay for is used properly. Using IBM’s EMM solution MAAS360, ADSI was able to offer Mobile Data Management services for its clients.

“Our Mobile Device Management service gives us an additional offering we can market. And it helps us to meet our customers’ requests for added security, visibility, and control over their devices,” says Adrian Spreadborough, Founder and Managing Director at ADSI.

“A very important criterion for us was the flexibility to tailor whatever we selected to suit our needs as a business,” adds Spreadborough.

2. EPIC Management

EPIC Management is a provider of healthcare management and consulting services. One of its most prominent clients is Beaver Medical Group (BMG) with just under 300 physicians and 150,000 patients.

Through Cisco Meraki and a reliable wireless network, BMG’s staff was able to use tablets to retrieve patient records, make notes, and view lab results securely from any room in the facility, office, or lab.

“Meraki provided a future-proof solution that passed our rigorous wireless requirements while providing superior value over our legacy system,” says Marshal Veerkamp, Senior Vice President, and CIO at EPIC Management.

“With Meraki, I have one less thing to keep me awake at night,” adds Veerkamp.

3. The Van Gogh Museum

The Van Gogh Museum houses the world’s largest Vincent van Gogh collection in the world. With 200 paintings and 500 drawings, the museum has over 300 dedicated staff that work on preserving the artwork.

The pandemic significantly reduced foot traffic, revenue, and forced the majority of its staff to work remotely. The museum needed a way to manage its remote workers at a lower budget.

The Van Gogh Museum implemented secure communication with mobile employee devices and sync desktops and digital workplaces with the help of Ivanti.

“It’s a big advantage for our employees that the updates in the start menu and new or adjusted settings come through immediately now,” says Rob de Zwaan, Senior Systems Administrator at The Van Gogh Museum.

“[Patching employee laptops] previously took one person 10 hours each week to update the machines,” adds Zwaan.

Industry: Nonprofit

EMM solution: Ivanti Security Controls (ISEC), Ivanti Workspace Control, and Ivanti Cloud Relay

Outcomes:

  • Saving 97.5% time on patching laptops
  • Mitigated over 50 vulnerabilities in two years
  • Saving 72% time on patching servers

4. DigitalMint

DigitalMint sells cryptocurrency through physical kiosks. Based in Chicago, Illinois, the company also offers various financial services such as bank transfers and digital purchasing of currencies.

DigitalMint uses iPads as its Point-of-Sale (PoS) devices. However, since those devices are available for anyone on the market, the IT team was concerned about their security and implementation.

Using Hexnode Kiosk, DigitalMint was able to lock its PoS iPads to a single or multiple apps remotely to avoid unauthorized access to data.

“The two things I look for are per unit cost and reliability and Hexnode has a low per-unit cost,” says Daniel Smith, Technical Operations Lead at DigitalMint.

“It just needs to have intuitive menus, and I think it does, some of the menus are quite intuitive,” adds Smith.

Industry: Financial services

EMM solutions: Hexnode Kiosk

Outcomes:

  • Easy installation through the Hexnode app
  • Manage iPads from a central console
  • Device and application locking for security

RGS Nordic cleans and recycles construction waste and wastewater in Denmark, Sweden, and Norway. With 35 processing facilities, RGD processes over 2.5 million tons of waste yearly.

Mobile devices are essential to RGS Nordic’s business process. The company needed an efficient solution to manage its devices, protect data and enforce privacy and security regulations, such as the GDPR.

Using IBM MaaS360 with Watson, RGS Nordic was able to gain 100% visibility into all of its mobile devices in Denmark.

“We have been very impressed by the level of granular insight and precise control that IBM MaaS360 with Watson gives us over our mobile devices,” says Lars Peter Lundstrøm, Head of IT at RGS Nordic.
